VAMA to open motor show in HCM City

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The 11th Vietnam Motor Show (VMS) will take place at the Saigon Fair and Exhibition Centre in HCM City from October 28 to November 1.

The event, organised by Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA), will be attended by 18 brand names from VAMA members including Toyota, Ford, and Honda, apart from Mercedes-Benz and General Motors.

About 150 cars with total value of VND250 billion will be on display at the five-day exhibition. Chevrolet, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz will introduce their sport models, Mitsubishi, Ford and Toyota will show vehicles with friendly-environment technology. Meanwhile, Nissan, Infiniti and Honda will bring their fashionable and convenient models.

Three models of Kia, Mazda and Peugeot from the Truong Hai Automobile JSC (Thaco) will be present for the first time at the event.

This is the first time there will not be models imported from official suppliers at the VAMA show. The auto importers will open their own show, Vietnam International Motor Show (VIMS 2015), in Ha Noi from October 9 to 13.

According to a VAMA report, the industry sold 21,366 units in September, increasing by 17 per cent compared with August and 32 per cent higher than the same period last year.

Passenger cars took the leading in sales with 12,789 units. It was followed by commercial vehicles and special-purpose vehicles with 7,594 units and 983 units, respectively.

The number of locally-assembled complete knock down (CKD) units was 15,936, up 18 per cent versus that of August. Meanwhile, the volume of complete built up (CBU) units was 5,430 units, 15 per cent higher than in August. — VNS
