HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Viet Nam has vast potential for environmentally friendly construction and is one of the top emerging markets for green buildings, organisers of the Singapore Green Building Week 2015 said at a press briefing on July 15 in HCM City.
The organisers encouraged Vietnamese architects, real estate developers and policymakers to attend the week-long green building event scheduled to take place in Singapore next month.
Press briefings about the event are also being held in four other Southeast Asian countries, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar.
The week-long event will include the Build Eco Xpo Asia and the Mostra Convegno Expocomfort Asia 2015 and the International Green Building Conference.
Chan Vun Ching, principal manager of Green Mark Development's (New Development) Technology Department Group, and the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore, said the country targeted having 80 per cent of its buildings green by 2030.
About 27 per cent of Singapore's built area has met the BCA Green Mark Standards, a green-building rating tool for the tropics and sub-tropics.
Viet Nam has also been harnessing its abundance of renewable energy sources by making significant strides in its commitment to develop green technology, said organisers.
Michelle Goh, assistant Project Manager for Build Eco Xpo and Mostra Convegno Expocomfort Asia 2015, said last year, around 30 Vietnamese attended the event.
She said she hoped more Vietnamese would attend this year's green building week, which will run from August 31 to September 6.
It is expected that 30,000 participants from more than 55 countries will attend the seventh edition of the green building week.
"I hope more Vietnamese industry experts, businesspeople, government officials and real estate developers will attend the event. When the event was organised the first time in 2008, there were almost no Vietnamese," Goh said. — VNS
