HCM CITY (Biz Hub) – Vietnamese companies will take part in the international trade show for horticultural and floricultural production and processing technology, Horti Asia 2014, to be held in Bangkok next May. The aim is to explore new production technologies to increase their advantage in the world market.
Dr Luong Ngoc Trung Lap, head of the Southern Fruit Research Institute's market research department, said Viet Nam's varied geographic and climatic conditions allow it to diversify its fruit and vegetable production, giving the sector great export potential.
However, unsophisticated post-harvest and processing technologies have caused big post-harvest losses and hindered exports of Vietnamese fruits to far-away markets, Lap said.
Ladda Mongkolchaivivat, general manager of VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific, said Horti Asia 2014 will provide a platform to share technologies within ASEAN and international markets, aimed at reducing production costs, increasing productivity on an international level.
The event is to be held at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre from May 8-10, and is expected to attract 155 exhibitors covering all technologies from pre-growing and growing to harvesting and post-harvesting, she said.
This year, the International Flower Trade Exhibition Asia 2014 (IFTEX Asia), an international trade show for entire floriculture industry, will also be organised alongside the event.
Orgainsed by VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific , the events are expected to welcome more than 8,000 visitors. - VNS
