The International Aquaculture Industry Exhibition will be held in HCM City from October 9 to 11.
Aquaculture Vietnam has attracted 100 exhibitors from more than 20 countries and territories, who will showcase their latest products, services and technologies used in the aquaculture industry.
Speaking at a press briefing on September 10 in HCM City, Rose Chitanuwat, regional portfolio director – ASEAN, Informa Markets, the expo’s organiser, said the event would allow visitors to explore the entire aquaculture value chain from farming and fishing to processing.
It would have a business matchmaking area to help exhibitors, livestock experts and potential customers connect directly, she said.
Biosecurity Asia Forum to be held on its sidelines will focus on directions, methods and implementation of biosecurity, a core value for sustainable development of the aquaculture and livestock industries.
To promote innovation and sustainable development in the fisheries sectors, Informa Markets will, together with the International Collaborating Centre for Aquaculture and Fisheries Sustainability (ICAFIS) and Việt Nam Fisheries Association, organise the 6th International Aquaculture Việt Nam Conference within the framework of the expo.
The conference with the theme “Greenhouse Emission Reduction and Development of Green Economy in Aquaculture” will have five sessions, one each on aquaculture species diversity, technologies towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and using renewable energy, circular economy to reduce costs and increase values for the aquaculture industry, aquaculture production and trading through the value chain, and multi-product strategies.
Lê Thanh Lựu, director of ICAFIS, said despite its successes, the aquaculture industry still faces numerous challenges like climate change, with extreme events like saltwater intrusion impacting water quality and production.
Input prices are rising and seed quality and farming technology have not adapted to climate change, he said.
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions in aquaculture is a crucial factor for its sustainable development, he said.
The aquaculture sector must promote research and application of modern farming technologies to adapt to climate change, he added.
The exhibition at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre will take place concurrently with Việt Nam’s Premier International Feed, Livestock & Meat Industry Show, Vietstock 2024. — VNS
