Da Nang to host ASEAN telecom meeting

DA NANG (Biz Hub) — The central city of Da Nang will host the annual 2015 ASEAN Telecommunications and IT Ministers Meeting (ASEAN TELMIN 2015) for the first time, which is set to take place from November 23 to 27.

The event is expected to attract 10 Ministers of Telecommunications and IT from ASEAN countries, the Secretary General of ASEAN and 150 delegates from China, South Korea, Japan, India, as well as the EU and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) .

The meeting will discuss programmes and co-operation activities to enhance information infrastructure as well as narrow the digital gap and improve the ability to apply IT between ASEAN countries.

Speaking with Da Nang city officials in a meeting to prepare for 2015 ASEAN TELMIN on Monday, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung said the event would attract many high-level leaders from countries, therefore Da Nang and the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) need to work together to meet some special requirements of the event.

Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department of MIC, Deputy Chairman of the ASEAN TELMIN 2015 Organisation Board Trieu Minh Long said in order to prepare for the meeting, the organisation board will compile a detailed outline and send to the MIC and Da Nang

A number of issues will require specific preparation, including media, health and security for delegations, said Long.

Deputy Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee Phung Tan Viet said Da Nang is very honored to host 2015 ASEAN TELMIN.

Viet also suggested the MIC and organisation board to send detailed documents to Da Nang for early deployment.

Da Nang city will invite the MIC to review all final preparations on November 12.

ASEAN TELMIN 2015 is the second time Viet Nam will host this event. Previously, Ha Noi hosted ASEAN TELMIN in 2005. — VNS
