VNPT Member Council gets new leader


Pham Duc Long, general director of the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), has been appointed as the chairman of the group’s Member Council.

Pham Duc Long, general director of the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) has been appointed as the chairman of the group’s Member Council.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed the appointment letter.

Long replaces former chairman Tran Manh Hung, who retired in November last year.

Born in 1970, Long got his PhD in telecommunications in Japan. He started working for VNPT in 1992 and has held various positions at VNPT such as the head of the telecoms department and director of HCM City Telecom.

He was appointed VNPT’s Deputy General Director in 2013 and joined its member council later.

He was appointed General Director in April 2015.

VNPT is currently the fixed broadband service provider with the largest market share in the country and the second-largest mobile market share. It has provided information technology solutions, e-government, smart cities for the Government, ministries and most provinces and cities across the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Hoang Anh, chairman of the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC), said Long was expected to lead VNPT to the completion of all tasks in terms of finance, administration, privatisation and launching the 5G network in the upcoming years.

Long said they would maintain VNPT as one of the key State firms in the telecommunications sector as well as in the national digital transformation process. — VNS
