Several southern retailers are launching promotional offers to boost the sale of pork amid slump in prices, which have hit farmers hard recently.
Foodstuff processor Vissan on Sunday announced a discount programme of up to 49 per cent on the price of type-1 VietGap pork (best quality) at its supermarkets until June 15.
Accordingly, pork prices will fluctuate from VND40,000 (US$1.75) to VND80,000 per kilogramme.
At the same time, prices of other types of pork have also been reduced to around VND25,500 to VND36,000 per kilogramme.
From June 6 to June 10, the company implemented a discount programme of 30 per cent to 32 per cent on type-1 pork, which recorded a sales volume of 530,000 tonnes, up by 51 per cent on an average, compared with sales on normal days.
The promotional programme will be implemented at most store chains of Vissan, Saigon Co.op, Coopfood, Vinmart, Satrafoods, Aeon Citimart, Giant, Auchan, Cocomart, Queenland mart, HQC mart and My Duc.
Pork retailer An Ha Company also slashed meat prices.
According to Nguyen Thi Hong Tham, director of An Ha Company, the company added only VND100,000 for profit on each pig to calculate the selling prices. An Ha Company also planned to maintain its cheap pork programme regularly. — VNS
