Budget carrier Vietjet on Monday announced the launch of five new routes between Viet Nam and Japan in the central coastal city of Da Nang.

The announcement ceremony took place within the framework of the Japan-Viet Nam Bilateral Tourism Promotion Conference, which welcomed more than 1,000 delegates from Japan, including officials from Japan's National Assembly, the Japanese government and leaders from major Japanese corporations.

These five international routes, including Ha Noi, HCM City and Da Nang to Nagoya via Chubu Centrair International Airport, as well as Ha Noi to Fukuoka and Kagoshima, are expected to begin ticket sales and commence operations in 2020, Vietjet said in a statement.

With a total of 10 direct routes between Viet Nam and Japan, Vietjet continues to offer travellers convenient options with suitable times and affordable fares.

"The new flights will also contribute to building the strategic bilateral relationship between the two countries while also promoting more cultural and economic exchanges," Vietjet said.

It added the new flights will help Viet Nam reach its target of attracting one million Japanese tourists this year.

More than 950,000 Japanese holiday-markers arrived in Viet Nam in 2019, up 12 per cent year-on-year, statistics from the Viet Nam Administration of Tourism showed.

In the near future, tourism co-operation between the two countries will continue to develop, especially with more direct flights, experts have said. — VNS
