Shopping for Tet (the Lunar New Year) has begun earlier than usual this year.
Though there are more than two weeks to go for Tet, large supermarkets like Co.opmart Nguyen Kiem, Co.opmart Rach Mieu, Co.opmart Dinh Tien Hoang, Co.opmart Hoa Hao, Co.opXtra Linh Trung and even Co.op Food and Co.opSmile stores are already constantly crowded like during weekends.
Trang, a customer buying Lix detergent and Net floor cleansing liquid at Co.opmart Tam Ky in Quang Nam Province, said this is the right time to buy these products since Co.opmart is offering attractive discounts on them.
She said she was taking advantage of the opportunity to buy these products so that before Tet she can focus on buying meat, fish and fruits and vegetables.
In her trolley are two stainless steel pots, a pan, a hair dryer, three men’s shirts, two renovated girls’ ao dai (Vietnamese long tunic) and more. Trang said all the products were being sold at a discount at the supermarket.
The customer service counters at Co.opmart Tan An supermarket in Long An Province are also filled with customers filling forms to send Tet gifts to their hometown using the supermarket’s free delivery service.

An excited customer named Tuan Anh, who is from Ha Tinh Province, said he used the service the last two years to send Tet gifts to his family before returning home without having to carry all the stuff as he had to do in years past.
“This is a very convenient service, customers just need to go to the nearest Co.opmart supermarket, choose the gifts and request the supermarket to send it to any place.
“Buying gifts at the supermarket is both convenient and safe with respect to quality, and there is no fear of buying fake products unlike a few years ago (when I) bought gifts outside.”
Overall, the shopping atmosphere has set in earlier this year compared to previous years.
Supermarkets are ready to serve customers this Tet since they have made solid preparations in terms of stocking a large variety of goods and in various price ranges and offering many kinds of services.
