Dairy giant Vinamilk has received approval from China’s General Department of Customs to export sweetened condensed milk and other condensed milk to the neighbouring market, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
With the approval, Vinamilk dairy products will have opportunities to access Chinese customers in the near future after sterilised milk and modified milk made by TH Milk Joint Stock Company (TH True Milk) entered China late last year.
Some other Vietnamese dairy producers are waiting for similar approval. With a population of more than 1.4 billion, China has a huge demand for milk and milk products, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
China consumes the most milk in the world, with a total value of US$60 billion, but domestic supply only meets 75 per cent of demand.
“More Vietnamese milk products are expected to enter the Chinese market after quality checks. With China’s door opening for Viet Nam’s milk products, the dairy industry is hoping to earn $300 million from this market by 2020,” Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said.
He said Vietnamese businesses had built concentrated farming models using hi-tech applications for production and administration, ensuring milk products meet strict Chinese regulations. — VNS
