Thai conglomerate SCG will award 100 undergraduate scholarships with a total value of VNĐ1.5 billion (nearly US$61,000) to students across Việt Nam.

These scholarships are part of SCG Sharing the Dream 2024 which was launched on Monday in HCM City by SCG, the Central Youth Union and HCM City Student Assistant Centre (SAC).

Focusing on future-oriented fields, the scholarships will primarily support students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, environment, design and economics. The subjects will include accounting, business administration and marketing, the company said in a statement.

Marking its 17th consecutive year, this scholarship programme reaffirms SCG's unwavering commitment to its ESG 4 Plus strategy - core focuses that have guided the company for many years, the company said. It aligns seamlessly with their ESG-centric vision, aiming to nurture Việt Nam's green generation and build a sustainable future by instilling these crucial values in the leaders of tomorrow.

General Director of SCG Vietnam, Praween Wirotpan, said: "The company commits to leveraging our extensive expertise in ESG practices and collaborating with key stakeholders. Through these efforts, SCG aims to provide Vietnamese students with a strong foundation in green mindset and life skills, drawing upon its wealth of sustainable development experience and its network of specialists cultivated over many years.

"Our initiative strives to create a long-term platform for inspiration and training, fostering a proactive and responsible approach to enhancing the quality of life. By facilitating connection between students and SCG's extensive resources and knowledge base, we aim to cultivate a generation that is environmentally conscious and equipped to promote Việt Nam's sustainable growth.”

In addition to financial assistance, the scholarship programme also features various extracurricular activities focused on the ESG concept. One of the main components is the ESG Ambassador competition, which challenges students to create inventive ESG initiatives that benefit their local communities in Việt Nam.

This competition not only encourages creativity and problem-solving skills but also prompts students to apply their ESG knowledge to real-world issues. The winning team will have the honour of representing Việt Nam at the ASEAN regional competition, offering them a valuable international exposure opportunity.

The programme also includes interactive workshops led by industry experts, factory tours showcasing sustainable practices in action and networking events with ESG professionals. These activities are designed to provide students with hands-on experience and opportunities to shape and develop a sustainable mindset.

Students interested in applying for the SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship can submit their applications from now until September 10, SCG said. — VNS
