MM Mega Market Vietnam is among the retailers to be honoured at the 2024 Green Business on August 29 in HCM City.
Organised by the Hồ Chí Minh City Business Association in collaboration with Sài Gòn Giải Phóng Newspaper, the annual event aims to honour businesses for their achievements in sustainability, such as waste treatment innovations, green products and sustainable development strategies towards green and circular economy in Việt Nam.
2024 marks the second consecutive year that MM Mega Market has achieved this meaningful title, thereby, continuing to affirm its position as a pioneering Green Retailer with sustainable initiatives and reaching the corporate goal of Net Zero Emissions by 2040.
Recently, MM Mega Market has published the 2023 Sustainability Report, reaching another milestone on the journey ahead the net-zero emissions. MMVN is making steady progress in “greening” its distribution system and supply chain nationwide.
Specifically, in 2023, 13 MM Mega Market stores nationwide applied solar rooftop energy, producing more than 5.5 million kWh of electricity. In addition, the light amplification system with light pipes and energy-saving LED lighting also contributes to reducing 9,748 tonnes of CO2 emission to the environment.

Through these actions, MM Mega Market has reduced an average of 10 million plastic bags waste per year into the environment.
MM Mega Market also works closely with partners to develop a comprehensive sorting and recycling model, aiming to increase recycling rates and reduce the exploitation of natural resources. Waste will be sorted at MMVN stores, and then transported to different recycling points.
In recent years, MMVN has strongly accompanied the Vietnam Recycling Organisation to build an electronic waste collection station, joined hands with UBC - Tetra Pak for paper boxes, TBC-Ball for aluminium cans as well as developed a plastic bottle recycling point with two partners, Alta and Aquafina.
Most recently in September 2024, MMVN cooperated with O-I BJC to collect glass bottles. In particular, MMVN and Green Connect implemented the Organic Waste Reduction, aiming to utilise organic waste as feed for chickens and black soldier fly larvae in the Humanitarian Chicken Farm model. The project has helped reduce up to 187 tonnes of food surplus each year.
In addition, MM Mega Market also focuses on community activities in four areas: Education, Environment, Health, and Sharing. In 2023, 2,118 MMVN employees nationwide participated in volunteer activities such as donating blood, cleaning public areas, and giving necessities to families in difficult circumstances, contributing more than 3,500 working hours. — VNS
