Many agricultural products from the northwestern mountainous province of Lai Chau are being introduced at WinMart Trung Hoa supermarket in Ha Noi at ‘A week for displaying and introducing Lai Chau Province’s agricultural products,’ and attracting a large number of customers.

Organised by the Lai Chau Province People’s Committee and Department of Industry and Trade and WinCommerce from December 22 to 27, the event features 10 businesses and cooperatives with over 40 typical agricultural products.

Its favourable climate and soil give the province an advantage in agriculture, helping it grow many typical items with good brand names such as tea, banana, macadamia, rice, cold water fish, dried meat, medicinal herbs, honey, and arrowroot glass vermicelli noodles.

In recent years producers of agricultural items in the province have focused on perfecting their production processes and improving quality standards to meet market requirements. Currently Lai Chau has 158 products qualified for the standards of One Commune-One Product (OCOP) programme.

The event, being held during the year-end shopping season, has been attracting a lot of visitors.

Thanh Ha of Cau Giay District said: “My family is very fond of agricultural products and specialties from the mountainous region because of their distinctive taste and good quality.

“Every year, when Tet comes, I usually buy rice, arrowroot glass vermicelli noodles, dried meat, and many other items from the northwest region.

“Today, when I went to WinMart supermarket, I saw stalls showcasing Lai Chau products with clear origin and very nice designs, and so I bought some for Tet."

Khuc Tien Ha, operations director of WinMart system in the north, said demand for local clean foods, fruits and vegetables and seafood has increased sharply in recent years.

At VinMart/VinMart+, fresh high-quality products from mountainous regions are trusted and chosen by many consumers, he said.

"The event to bring OCOP certified products into the WinMart/WinMart+ system is an opportunity for businesses and cooperatives in Lai Chau Province to access the modern retail distribution system."

WinCommerce is the largest retail system in Viet Nam in terms of scale with more than 3,400 WinMart , WinMart+ and WIN supermarkets and stores in 63 provinces and cities nationwide.

Vietnamese goods account for more than 90 per cent of the products on its shelves.

WinCommerce is currently associated with thousands of production households, cooperatives and agricultural suppliers, and ensures offtake of their goods. It also teaches them quality management and goods preservation, and invests in logistics systems in major production areas to safeguard product quality.

The event is one of many activities by the company to promote the consumption of domestic goods in the country. — VNS
