La Vie, a subsidiary of Nestle Group, has launched natural mineral water using recycled plastic bottles (rPET).

It has started with a 700ml bottle that is 50 per cent recycled and will expand this to other products based on the availability of raw materials in the market, it said.

There is huge demand for recycled plastic from beverage companies like La Vie, the company said, adding they face a big challenge in using recycled plastic since no one makes food-grade recyclable plastic in Viet Nam.

The initiative is part of La Vie and Nestle’s target to make their packaging 100 per cent recyclable or reusable by 2025.

To achieve this, La Vie is undertaking many initiatives on sustainable packaging, including eliminating the use of unnecessary packaging or packaging that is difficult to collect and recycle, launching mineral water in glass bottles and increasing the use of reusable packaging. — VNS
