Saigon Co.op opened a new Co.opXtra hypermarket in HCM City’s Thủ Đức city on Friday, its fifth so far.

Co.opXtra is a joint venture between Saigon Co.op and NTUC Fairprice, Singapore’s leading cooperative.

Located on the second floor of Vincom Mega Mall in the Vinhomes Grand Park urban area in Long Bình Ward, Co.opXtra Long Bình sells more than 30,000 items, including fresh and dry foods, cosmetics, household items, and clothing.

Besides Vietnamese high-quality products, which account for over 80 per cent of its goods, the hypermarket also offers more than 5,000 premium products imported from Singapore, South Korea, Japan, the US, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

It also offers online shopping via Co.opOnline, Facebook, Zalo, and other apps, and free delivery within a six-kilometre radius.

Dương Minh Quang, Co.opXtra’s general director, said the new outlet is the chain’s first sales point to apply advanced retail technologies like Xtrabot, an AI robot.

With a friendly interface resembling a professional marketer, Xtrabot introduces promotions and even offers free samples like tea, coffee and confectionery directly to customers, he said.

There are also smart lockers operated by barcode, self-checkout counters and automatic noodle-cooking machines to provide an exciting experience for customers, he said.

Its readymade food area features a variety of dishes from various parts of Việt Nam and international cuisine such as sushi, sashimi, pizza, spaghetti, curry, and som tum.

To celebrate its opening, the store is offering promotions, including discounts of up to 50 per cent on 3,500 products, vouchers for customers who register as Saigon Co.op member customers and a lucky draw programme with prizes like a side-by-side refrigerator, a SH125i scooter, washing machines, and microwave ovens.

Saigon Co.op plans to open its sixth hypermarket in HCM City’s District 8 next month.
