Central Retail Vietnam and Tân Yên District People's Committee on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding for the consumption of early ripe lychee in Tân Yên District, Bắc Giang Province.
The Thai retail group has been actively working in Bắc Giang Province for months to help local businesses and suppliers promote the sale of the early lychees and other key agricultural products, in their supermarkets. The group will be introducing lychee-based dishes and drinks into the markets, special promotions and collaborating with e-commerce platforms, along with using their own apps to boost online lychee sales.
The company's outlets - GO! and Tops Market - have created specially decorated point of sale stalls at the entrances of the supermarkets to show off the early ripe lychees.
Central Retail's push to promote the export of this year's lychee harvest also includes a 'Fruit Festival' in GO!, Big C and Tops Market supermarkets nationwide from June 30.
In total, the outlets expect to sell around 300 tonnes of lychees this year.
Due to abnormal weather, this year's lychee harvest has suffered significant losses, with production expected to be half of what it was last year, while the sale price is anticipated to increase by about 40 per cent.
In 2024, Tân Yên District has 1,370 hectares dedicated to lychee cultivation, with 1,170 hectares allotted for early ripe lychees. The projected production is around 16,000 tonnes, with an estimated 10,500 tonnes meeting export standards. The harvest period for early ripe lychees in Tân Yên is scheduled to last until June 25, 2024. — VNS
