Asia Bakery and Confectionery JSC, known as ABC Bakery, will export 10,000 boxes of mooncakes (40,000 mooncakes) under its new product line to the US this year, Kao Siêu Lực, the company’s general director, said.
These mooncakes are made with US ingredients like blueberries, almonds and California cream cheese combined with classic Vietnamese flavours, like dragon fruit, he said.
Speaking at the launch of the new line of mooncakes in HCM City on Monday, Lực said this year is the third year that the company exports mooncakes to the US. Last year, it exported about 600 boxes to the market.
“We had thoroughly conducted research to come up with the fillings that are suitable to US consumer tastes,” he said.
Francis Lee, the representative of the California Milk Advisory Board and the US Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC) in Việt Nam, said: “We have been working with ABC Bakery since 2019 to introduce California dairy products to Vietnamese consumers and showcase their versatility and quality in various baked goods.”
One of the highlights of this collaboration is the California cream cheese mooncakes. These mooncakes are not only available at ABC Bakery’s outlets across Việt Nam, but are also shipped to California as a gift to dairy farmers, he said.
“We hope that they will enjoy these mooncakes as much as we do.”
“This year is the first year that the USHBC cooperates with ABC Bakery to put US blueberries in moon cakes. With a unique delicious taste and rich in nutrition, we want to bring customers a new wonderful experience,” he added.
“Food and agriculture are an important part of the US - Việt Nam relationship, and we are both important markets for each other’s agricultural products. Our countries are more prosperous and our food more diverse thanks to this trade,” said Susan Burns, Consul General of the US Consulate General in HCM City.
Lực said his company produces about 2.5 million cakes with over 80 flavours this year, an increase of 30 per cent over last year.
In addition to the US market, the company also exports mooncakes to the Japanese market.
Its mooncake exports remain modest, at just 2-3 per cent of its total output, and are expected to increase significant in the years to come as the company plans to enhance promotion of the products in the US and other markets, he said. — VNS
