Global healthcare company Abbott on Monday announced the launch of a:care, which includes a range of services to help people achieve better health.

The eco-system supports people with a broad range of healthcare needs, from prevention to awareness, treatment and motivation.

For instance, using the a:care online platform, patients can access health information or participate in motivational points-based programme to help them adhere to treatments prescribed by their doctor, and a doctor can get access to the latest science and medical updates.

One of the key objectives of a:care is to get people to follow treatment plans.

According to the World Health Organization, studies show that 50 per cent of people do not take medicines as prescribed, which could affect long-term health, Assoc Prof Dr Pham Le An, vice president of the Viet Nam Association of Family Medicine, said.

A recent study in the country found that 37 per cent of heart failure patients do not take their prescription medication, he said.

“Adherence remains one of the key healthcare challenges with patient treatment here in Viet Nam. The benefits of adherence transcend financial, health and overall wellness aspects.

“It’s essential to help people better understand and achieve better outcomes for their health and improve their quality of life.”

a:care is also designed to help alleviate some of the growing pressures on the healthcare systems around the world. In many places, there are not enough resources to meet the growing needs.

Ngo Van Huy, general manager of Abbott’s pharmaceuticals business in Viet Nam, said: “a:care is a model for the future. We have deep understanding about the challenges and needs of doctors and patients in Viet Nam. Therefore, Abbott has built this healthcare eco-system to help millions of Vietnamese across the country who are seeking better health.

“With a:care, Abbott addresses several of the biggest needs we hear from patients, doctors and pharmacists.” — VNS
