HA NOI (Biz Hub) — FWD Group announced the appointment of David Wong as chairman of FWD Viet Nam on September 26. 

FWD is the insurance arm of Asia-based Pacific Century Group and a recent entrant to the Viet Nam market with the acquisition of Great Eastern Life.

"This is an exciting growth period for Viet Nam's insurance industry. Looking forward, we will focus our efforts on growing the business to become the leading insurer in Viet Nam," Wong said.

David, who is currently chief executive officer, HK & Macau, and executive vice president, Greater China, joined FWD in 2013. He has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry and has worked extensively across Asia, including as CEO of Manulife, Viet Nam.

He is also an expert on pension reform across Asia and has advised a number of ASEAN regulators on rural financial inclusion and micro-insurance development as part of his role in the United Nations Development Programme.

As chairman of FWD Viet Nam, David will oversee FWD's business in Viet Nam and provide insight and counsel on the regulatory environment, internal risk management and business opportunities in the country. — VNS
