HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Heineken acquired a brewery in the southern province of Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu from Carlsberg A/S to serve the growing production in the country, a Heineken Việt Nam official said.

Meanwhile, Carlsberg Chief Executive Officer Cees't Hart said to the media that the sale of the brewery with the capacity of 50 million litres per year would allow the brewer to concentrate on its existing market in the northern part of the country.

Việt Nam, which is always in top of the beer consumption in the world, is one of the most attractive markets for international brewers such as Heineken, Thai Beverage PCL and Asahi Group Holdings Ltd as well as the tow local brewers of Ha Noi Beer Alcohol Beverage Corp and Saigon Beer Alcohol Beverage Corp (Sabeco).

According to the Việt Nam Beer Alcohol Beverage Association, the local consumption for beer last year soared nearly 40 per cent from 2010, and added that local drinkers are expected to have more than 4 billion litres of beer this year.

The association said that with 40 per cent control of the market last year, Sabeco was the leader, followed by Heineken and Habeco with 20 per cent. Carlsberg was in third place with 10 per cent. — VNS
