HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Three Vietnamese banks were listed in Forbes Global 2000, an annual ranking of the world's largest public companies, this year.

The Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV) ranked 1691 with US$2.6 billion in revenue, $287 million in profits, $37.8 billion in assets and $2.6 billion in market value.

The Viet Nam Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) was at 1808 with $2.3 billion in revenue, $260 million in profits, $34.7 billion in assets and $2.8 billion in market value.

The Bank for Foreign Trade of Viet Nam (Vietcombank) stood at 1843 with $1.8 billion in revenue, $242 million in profits, $30 billion in assets and $5.5 billion in market value.

Forbes said in a Wednesday report that this year's list featured firms from 63 countries that together accounted for $35 trillion in revenue, $2.4 trillion in profits, $162 trillion of assets, and had a combined market value of $44 trillion.

All four metrics were down from last year's ranking, as slowing global growth, collapsing commodity prices and declines in equity markets in the US, China and elsewhere pressured businesses and knocked stocks. The Global 2000's combined market cap fell 8 per cent year-over-year.

Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank and Agricultural Bank of China held on to the top three spots of the list.

US banks were among this year's gainers, with JPMorgan Chase rising into the top five, Wells Fargo making it into the top 10, and Bank of America and Citigroup each climbing into the top 15.

US and China-based companies dominated the Top 10, with only Japan's Toyota Motor at tenth preventing a clean sweep. Overall, 586 US companies make the list, to 249 for mainland China and Hong Kong, 219 for Japan, 92 from the United Kingdom and 67 from South Korea. — VNS
