Standard Chartered has organised its 120th anniversary in Việt Nam in Hà Nội Opera House.

The event drew hundreds of attendants including representatives from local authorities, the State Bank of Việt Nam, embassies, and the bank’s clients and partners.

At the ceremony, Lê Công Thành, Deputy Minister of the Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) delivered the certificate of merit from the Minister to Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam, recognising its contribution to environmental protection and response to climate change. Also, Michele Wee, CEO of Standard Chartered Vietnam was awarded the medal “For the great contribution to Natural Resources and Environment” from MoNRE for her achievements in contributing to the development of the natural resources and environment sector.

The bank also delivered medals for its long-term clients and partners over the years.

Michele Wee said: “Over the past 120 years, we have witnessed Việt Nam's incredible transformation and been part of it. The largest event that we will host to celebrate 120 years is the Standard Chartered Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race in November this year. Aside from the marathon, we will continue to invest to drive commerce and prosperity, and to be a trusted partner, lifting participation and supporting Việt Nam's ambitious vision for an inclusive, sustainable and prosperous future for this great country.”

The ceremony continued with the mini-concert “The flow of prosperity” with performances by famous artists and especially the Green and Blue choir made up of 120 colleagues of the bank and the conductor/CEO Michele.

The anniversary event was also organised in HCM City on Thursday. Additionally, the bank will organise a series of events and activities to mark the milestone, including the painting competition “Here for good” which inspires creativity for all children in Việt Nam, featuring their feelings and views on good actions and behaviours in life.

The Standard Chartered Cup 2024 which offers the chance of a lifetime for Vietnamese amateur footballers and football fans, with a grand prize of a tour around Anfield stadium and professional training session at the LFC academy hosted by LFC legends and coaches, and SC Games 2024, an internal sport competition for all the bank’s colleagues in markets in Asia to be organised in Việt Nam for the first time.

In Việt Nam, Standard Chartered’s history can be traced back to 1904 when the bank opened its first branch in HCM City. Standard Chartered has strongly supported Việt Nam for economic development and to achieve the net zero ambitions.
