Outstanding banks receive awards

The 5th Viet Nam Outstanding Banking Awards was organised in HCM City on Thursday to honour several banks for their contribution to the development of the banking and financial sector and Viet Nam’s economy this year.

The members of the board of judges were representatives from Government agencies, ministries, associations and experts in the fields of finance and technology.

The banks which were eligible were state-owned commercial banks, joint-stock commercial banks, wholly foreign-owned commercial banks and joint-venture banks.

Eight awards were given this year.

The Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV) won the “Viet Nam Outstanding Retail Banking Award 2016”. BIDV, which opened 10 years ago, has mainly focused on retail banking development by allocating one-third of its human resources and half of its financial resources.

It has over 1000 sub-branches, more than 1,800 ATMs and around 32,000 points of sale (POS). It has made fundamental changes in thinking, perception and actions of all levels in commanding, operating and deploying retail businesses.

The Viet Nam Prosperity Bank (VPBank) won “Viet Nam Outstanding E-banking Award 2016”. In May, VPBank became the first bank in the market to establish a department to manage e-banking and digital banking services. It also won “Viet Nam Outstanding Bank for SMEs 2016”.

The Military Bank (MB) and Sai Gon – Hà Noi Commercial Bank (SHB) both won the “Viet Nam Outstanding Security Initiative Banking Award 2016”.

The information security system of MB was built under strict standards, while the IT Safety Center of SHB includes international standards in security solutions that protect internal IT systems.

The Bank for Foreign Trade of Viet Nam (Vietcombank) won “Best Bank with an Effective Network of POS 2016”. Along with the development of bank card products, Vietcombank has always invested in developing an effective network of POS across the country, which has helped to improve service quality for better customer usage in terms of convenience and safety.

HSBC won the “Viet Nam Outstanding Foreign-Owned Bank Award 2016”. HSBC is one of the few truly international banks with an unrivalled global presence with access to more than 90 per cent of global GDP, trade and capital flows.

HSBC has a diverse universal banking model that supports a strong capital and funding base, which has reduced its risk profile. It also generates stable shareholder returns.

The Bac A Bank won both the “Viet Nam Outstanding Innovative Banking Product /Service Award 2016” and the “Savings for the Elderly” and “Bank for Community Award 2016”.

By designing products with convenience and customer care programs for the elderly, the product offers better benefits than similar products. The bank has also focused on investing in agriculture.

The Bao Viet Bank won the “Bank for Community Award 2016”. It is seen as an active bank in business activities and charities. The employees also donate money, in-kind gifts and actively participate in social activies and charities.

The 5th annual Viet Nam Outstanding Banking Awards 2016, organised by the International Data Group (IDG ASEAN), was concurrently organised with the Viet Nam Retail Banking Forum under the endorsement of the Viet Nam Banks Association (VNBA).

The awards ceremony has become an annual destination for bank associations to look back at their achievements after a year of operation, and discuss their work for the future. — VNS
