HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The acting General Director of the Viet Nam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank), Tiet Van Thanh, was appointed as General Director of the bank on February 10.

State Bank of Viet Nam Governor Nguyen Van Binh ordered the appointment. Agribank Chairman Trinh Ngoc Khanh said this will help the bank consolidate its management to overcome challenges in the coming months.

Thanh has been in charge of the acting position since mid-2014, after former Agribank General Director Pham Thanh Tan was arrested for alleged violations of State regulations governing economic management. Earlier, Thanh was serving as the deputy general director of the bank.

According to VnExpress online, Agribank reported about VND3.24 trillion (US$154.28 million) in pre-tax profits last year, up 6 per cent from the previous year. It also fulfilled an annual credit growth target of 8.8 per cent, with three quarters of outstanding loans allocated for agricultural and rural development. — VNS
