Standard Chartered appoints new CEO for ASEAN markets

HA NOI (Biz Hub) ― Veteran banker Lim Cheng Teck will assume the role of chief executive officer (CEO) for Standard Chartered Bank's ASEAN markets on May 1, announced the bank.

The new development appeared in a news release on Thursday.

According to the bank, ASEAN is a structured key growth region, which has implemented policies to maximise opportunities, and Cheng Teck will be responsible for delivering strategies to realise growth for the bank's franchise and operations in the region.

Cheng Teck has worked for 26 years in Standard Chartered. Prior to taking up the new role as CEO of the bank in China, he led the team in this country to double its revenues between 2009 and 2012, crossing US$1 billion for the first time. Before China, he was the CEO of the bank in Singapore.

According to Jaspal Bindra, the group executive director and CEO Asia of the bank, ASEAN contributed about a quarter of the group's total income in 2013.

"He (Cheng Teck) will lead our strategic efforts to leverage on our strong ASEAN presence to facilitate trade and investment flows between ASEAN and the rest of the world and to enhance the support we provide to all our customers," he emphasised.

Other key growth regions for the bank were Greater China, Northeast Asia, MENAP (Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan), South Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. ― VNS
